Herrera has nearly seven years of experience in marketing, public relations, resource development, event planning and Internet presence management. Her San Diego upbringing and time in Hawaii have meshed together to create a progressive way of producing results and doing business with aloha.
Prior to establishing ERA Communications, Herrera worked for one of Hawai`i’s leading public relations firms. There she successfully garnered media coverage and coordinated events for a wide variety of clients in the industries of tourism and travel, hospitality, health care, development, and the non-profit sector. She was also tasked with guiding the incorporation of Web 2.0 and social media strategies into the company’s business model.
Previously, she worked with two national non-profit organizations, Kids Included Together (KIT) and StandUp For Kids. In both positions she played a key role in developing advantageous resource development, brand identity, Internet presence, community relations, and government relations programs. Achievements included: attendance of over 6,000 people at a first time holiday fair; a brand identity campaign that garnered a Congressional Proclamation and support from large corporate partners such as Virgin Mobile; multiple grants from Google, QUALCOMM and CVS Pharmacy Charitable Trust; and successful management of a profitable weeklong event Runway for Runaways. Herrera has received several awards for her work to improve the lives of at-risk children.
In addition, she has supported concert logistics for SOMA San Diego, one of Southern California’s leading concert venues, for over five years. There she continues to successfully assist logistical aspects of concerts for artists/ bands such as Jason Mraz, Nine Inch Nails, Incubus, and Panic at the Disco. Herrera is also launching Fashioning Change (FC), a socially responsible eco-chic etail site that gives 10 percent of profits to organizations creating positive systems change.
She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California, Riverside. When she’s not working she can be found spending time with family and friends, at the beach, taking a Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jistu or yoga class.
